Why Buy Your French Bulldogs From a Show Breeders, when they cost more ?

The Commercial breeder is the single greatest cause of pet overpopulation. Commercial breeders usually do not have bad intentions, but the results of back yard breeding are devastating. The majority of purebred dogs come from this category in many popular breeds, as well as the majority of purebred dogs in rescue, or destroyed in pounds. Most are sold locally through newspaper ads - the responsibility ends when the purchaser's taillights disappear from sight. Many backyard breeders do not have the knowledge to properly raise a healthy, socialized litter, or to help the new owner with any problems that might arise.

Puppy Farmers/ breeders may act on a desire to make extra money, or simply out of ignorance. Sometimes back yard breeders will breed so "their children can experience the miracle of birth", or they mistakenly believe "every dog should have one litter." They may think their dog is so cute, he/she would make wonderful puppies, with little or no thought for the homes to which their puppies will go. Other back yard breeders see how much money legitimate breeders charge for pups and figure they could make some "easy money" too. Or, a back yard breeder may have a completely unplanned litter by accident.

They usually bring two breeding animals together regardless of their quality. They are not interested in scientific breeding. Their aim is to fulfil a personal need or goal, not to improve the breed and bring excellent quality dogs to the world. Since breed excellence is generally unimportant, the breeding dogs generally will not have been tested for genetic and health problems.

Back yard breeders are not necessarily bad people, they often come from middle to upper income families, and their dogs can be well loved and kept. However, getting a pup from a back yard breeder is a gamble:

They will be working on new personal objectives in five years when your pet has a problem and you need help.

Although you might pay less for the breed of your choice from a pet store or commercial  breeder, it's almost a given that in the long run, you'll pay a good deal more in vet bills and perhaps emotional bills (if the dog has to be euthanized due to a health or temperament problems.  Just what is a responsible breeder of purebred dogs? Just what is it that sets such a person apart from any other breeder? Why are responsible breeders so special? Why should they be sought out by anyone looking to purchase a puppy?

What is a Reputable Breeder ?

A responsible breeder is dedicated to the breed - always learning about a breed, recognizing the need to adhere to key breed identifying characteristics and working hard to do everything possible to maintain and preserve a given breed for the enjoyment of future generations.

A responsible breeder carefully weighs each mating with an eye on what is best for the breed in terms of appearance, temperament, and health considerations. Responsible breeders answer buyers' questions, keep puppies they cannot place, allow bitches to recover sufficiently from one breeding before doing another, and take back any puppy that does not work out.

A responsible breeder never breeds just to sell puppies for money; instead a responsible breeder looks upon each puppy as an investment in the future of the breed. All potential puppy buyers are thoroughly screened to determine suitability, responsibility and capability. A responsible breeder is always there to answer questions, give advice and offer guidance to new puppy owners.

A responsible breeder does not "wholesale" puppies to "brokers" for resale to a pet shop; responsible breeders do not regard their puppies as "cash crop" or "pin money." Responsible breeders never mate two dogs without being prepared to care for the resulting puppies for the rest of their lives. Responsible breeders have long range plans, definitive thoughts about their breed and are never afraid to speak up and voice an opinion.

Responsible breeders are always there - through the joys of life and heartache of death. Responsible breeders are the backbone of their breed and leave a lasting legacy for future generations of dog lovers to enjoy.

A puppy from an ethical, reputable breeder will normally cost more. You get what you pay for. When the purchase price is too cheap, it may mean large vet bills and an ill puppy, or a temperament problem, down the road ahead.

With a deep love of the breed, in general, and their dogs, in particular, they will offer references, including giving you their vet's name and phone number. They consider the puppies they produce to be their responsibility for the life of that puppy, so they follow-up frequently to see what's going on and will be there for you for years to come. m), than you would from a reputable breeder.
